About Me

Hello

Here is a little bit about me...

My name is Karen Powers. I graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and have been working in the field of Mental Health since 1991. As a group home counselor, I worked directly with inner city youth. Our mission was to provide a safe, caring respectful community that supported, personal growth. This work led me to complete a Master's Degree in Human Development & Family Studies at the University of Rhode Island.

Upon graduation, my husband and I relocated to New Jersey where I began working for Greater Trenton CMHC in their IFSS program. This program offered counseling and support to family members who had a loved one with a severe and persistent Mental Health condition.

Since 2000, I have been providing outpatient counseling services to Individuals, Couples and Families, first at Greater Trenton CMHC and then, in Private Practice. I currently have my own office located In Hamilton Square, New Jersey where I help people build better connections with those they love. I encourage my clients to understand their own needs, be curious about the needs of others and communicate those needs effectively. I prefer a collaborative approach in which we work together to achieve your goals.

I have 2 college age children and have been married since 1994. I love being outdoors, running with friends and game night with the family.

I look forward to working with you.
